Raipur, July 1 : A Naxal commander, carrying a reward of Rs 3 lakh on his head, was gunned down in an encounter with the police in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Sunday.
The Naxal commander has been identified as Jaggu. His body was found on Sunday morning, he was a key accused in the killing of a village sarpanch in Sukma, Police said.
Sukma Superintendent of Police Abhishek Meena said the gunfight broke out after the Maoists opened fire at a police patrol. The other Maoists retreated after the police retaliated.
A large number of weapons and Maoist literature were found at the site.
