Naval chief Sunil Lanba receives Guard of honor at Mumbai’s INS Shikra

Mumbai, 1 August, 2016: The Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Sunil Lanba on Monday receives Guard of honour at Mumbai’s INS Shikra.

Addressing the media, Navy chief said that INS Viraat after having done service for 29 years, it is scheduled to be de-inducted to the later part of the year and for INS Vikrant, we are in touch with Kochin Shipyard. It is due to be inducted by December 2018.

On Viraat, Lanba added that Ministry has written to coastal states, we are waiting for a proposal to come from one of these states and once proposal is sent to ministry, will see how Viraat can be converted into an aircraft carrier museum.

While clearing a stand on matter of allegations against a medical officer by a subordinate in Southern Command, Lanba said we have just received BOI report and it is being analysed.

Continuously working towards indigenisation, till date 200 ships have been constructed ingenuously and 46 are still under construction, he added.
