New Delhi, July 13: Citing a media report, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Friday hit out at Narendra Modi’s visit to China in April, saying never in India’s history has a prime minister “capitulated to pressure from a foreign power as this one has”.

Gandhi shared a news report titled `Indian Army puts Mountain Strike Corps aimed at China in cold storage on Twitter Handle. ‘ The report cited an official source as stating that the Army has decided to shelve all-new accretions for a China-specific Mountain Strike Corps due to financial constraints.

“Our PM’s “no agenda” China visit, clearly had a “Chinese hidden agenda” which is now unravelling. Never before in India’s history has a PM capitulated to pressure from a foreign power, as this one has”, he tweeted.

Gandhi described Modi’s April visit this year to Wuhan for an informal summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping as a “no agenda” visit.

The Cabinet Committee on Security had approved the Mountain Strike Corps in 2013. The decision was apparently geared towards Army acquiring “quick reaction ground offensive capabilites” against Bejing.
