The Union Minister of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Uma Bharti on Thursday unveiled 231 projects under the ‘Clean Ganga’ project.
At the launch event, Uma Bharti said that “Nitin Gadkari always told me to take charge of cleaning up Ganga. He always told me that a separate ministry will be set up for cleaning river Ganga. He kept his promise and PM Modi ji gave me the charge of this project.”
“Today we are launching 231 projects today across 100 locations and these projects will touch the lives not only of people, but also of species who will be protected,” she said. “We will not let the Rs 400 crore that has been spent so far in so many years on the project. We will spend more money to ensure that river Ganga is cleaned,” she added.
The projects are being launched at various locations in Uttrakhand, UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Haryana and Delhi. But, the main function is being held at Haridwar, attended by Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat and Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari, Choudhary Birender Singh, Mahesh Sharma and Uma Bharti.
