Muzaffarpur case: Police attach Manju Verma’s properties

Patna, Nov 17: The Bihar Police on Saturday attached the property of former Bihar Minister Manju Verma at her residence in Begusarai.

The development took place a day after ADG SK Singhal said that they are planning to attach her properties if she doesn’t surrender soon.

The Janata Dal-United leader was suspended from the party on Thursday.

In August, the Central Bureau of Investigation had registered a case against Manju Verma and her husband Chandrashekhar at Cheria Bariarpur police station of Begusarai district after the probe agency seized about 50 cartridges from their residence during searches, which were a part of  Muzaffarpur Shelter Home case.

Though, Chandrashekhar Verma, surrendered before District Court Manjhaul on October 29. He was sent to 14 days judicial custody on Monday.

While the former minister is absconding.

The Patna High Court has rejected her bail plea. Last month a court in Begusarai had issed a warrant against here.

Manju Verma had resigned as Bihar minister of Social Welfare on August 8 following allegations that her husband has links with the main accused of Muzaffarpur Shelter Home case, Brajesh Thakur.

Of the 42 girls lodged at the residential hostel run by Thakur’s NGO, 34 were found to have been sexually assaulted. The incident came to light after a social audit by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai.

Since then, the shelter home has been sealed.
