Muslim Arakashan Muk Morcha takes to streets in Pune demanding jobs reservation

Maharashtra, Sep 9 : After Marathas and Dhangars protest for reservation, the Muslim community from Maharashtra’s Pune district  took out a  protest March or ‘Muslim Arakashan Muk Morcha’ on Sunday to press for their demands, including a grant of 15 percent reservation to the Muslim community under the Ragnath Mishra Commission, Sacchar Committee and Mehmood-Ur-Rehman committee reports.

Their main demands were 15 percent reservation to Muslim in education and employment, non-interference of the government in Muslim personal law, return of waqf properties, compensation to youngster who had spent a major part of their lives in jail on false allegations of involvement in terrorist activities and no ban on Muslim education centers.

The protest march has started from Golibar Maidan in Camp and will culminate at the collector’s office. The organisers claim that they have garnered support from other community groups, apart from Muslim organisations.

Muslim community gave the government a month’s time to respond, failing which a protest march has been proposed on September 9.

The previous government had announced the reservation for Muslims, just ahead of the elections. The ordinance passed by the Congress-NCP government never got converted into a law by the current BJP regime in the past four years.
