Mumbai, July 20: At least 70 women prisoners of Byculla Jail have been admitted to Mumbai’s JJ Hospital on Friday after they complained of vomiting and abdominal pain.
As per the reports, the admission of the inmates to the hospital began around 10 am after they informed the jail authorities about the health problems.
Around 70 Prisoners of Byculla Jail admitted to Mumbai’s JJ Hospital till now after they complained of vomitting and abdominal pain, will be kept under observation for at least 48 hours, The reason behind their illness to be ascertained only after reports come, Doctor Wiqar Sheikh told ANI.
Speaking to the Indian Express, Inspector General of Prison Rajvardhan Sinha said that the prisoners allegedly reacted to a strong medicine dose given by civic health department on Thursday as a precautionary measure to prevent cholera.
“Soon after taking the medicine, the inmates started vomiting. We sent them to the hospital as a precaution. Most are stable,” he said.
