Mumbai, AUg 30 : Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay S Barvre, who was set to retire on August 31, has got three months extension considering the upcoming assembly elections.
Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Barve was given an extension of three months as “a special case in public interest” on Friday, a Maharashtra government official said.
The appointments committee of the state cabinet has approved the proposal of Union Ministry of Home Affairs on Friday and issued the extension order, he said.
Senior IPS officer Rashmi Shukla was the contender for the top cop’s job but she has to wait. Her ascension as the Police Commissioner of Mumbai would mean that she will become the first-ever woman to hold the post.
Rashmi Shukla, a 1988-batch IPS officer is hailed for her contribution towards the safety of women in Pune.
Other contenders are senior IPS officer Param Bir Singh, currently the Maharashtra State Intelligence Commissioner.
