Mumbai: Fire breaks out at Crystal Tower in Parel, 4 killed

Mumbai, Aug 22: At least four persons died and several others were injured as a fire broke out at Crystal Tower in Parel area of Mumbai on Wednesday.

“Area around the lift of the 12th floor was the worst affected. Fire in the electrical wiring kept in duct area had caused smoke&heat on the entire floor, because of which people on upper floors were trapped”, Fire Dept official said.

“14 fire engines are here. The situation under control. Firefighting operation over and cooling operation is on. Complaint to be lodged on charges of a criminal offence against the responsible society official. Building declared unsafe;power&water supply stopped for now”, he added.

According to KEM Hospital Dean Dr. Avinash N Supe, a total 20 victims were brought to KEM Hospital, of which 4 were brought dead;1 senior citizen female and 3 male. While 16 patients condition is stable

So far 2 bodies have been identified.

Twenty fire tenders were rushed to the spot. A rescue operation is underway.

So far no casualties reported till now. People trapped inside were rescued using cranes.
