Mandsaur, Oct 28, 2016: The Madhya Pradesh government has raised a controversary after a government college in Mandsaur district distributed free bags to students of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities with the ‘caste tag’ making them easily identifiable.
About 250 students of ‘Rajiv Gandhi Shaskiya Sanatan Mahavidyalaya’, undergraduate and postgraduate, have received these bags. Along with the bag, they were also given a pen, a calculator and a notebook.
Principal B R Nalvaya told media after came into highlight that “What’s wrong if it is spelled out clearly, because the bags were distributed under a welfare scheme? If some people don’t like it, I will get the words erased. In any case, it was the supplier who wrote it on the bags.’’
However, the principal of the school has also assured he will get the SC/ST tag erased from the rest of the bags.
The controversy began after photographs of the bags were circulated on social media.
Meanwhile, the Congress leader Arun Yadav took to twitter and said that “the distribution of bags that indicate caste is shameful. It reflects the anti-Dalit and anti-tribal mindset of the RSS-backed government in Madhya Pradesh.”
