Most wanted Hizbul commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani killed in Kashmir


In a big achievement by our forces, Burhan Muzaffar Wani, the Kashmir Valley’s most wanted terrorist and top Hizbul Mujahideen commander was among the three terrorists killed by the security forces in an ongoing gunbattle in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag on Friday night.

Killing of Top Hizbul commander Burhan Wani is a significant success as Wani featured in videos were circulated on Facebook and WhatsApp for recruiting youths in Kashmir.

Burhan Wani, the most sought after local guerrilla commander who had become a poster boy of militancy in Kashmir, was killed along with two associates in a gunfight with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday.

A senior police officer told : “Hizbul Mujahideen’s (HM) most wanted local commander Burhan Wani was killed on Friday in a gunfight with the security forces in Bamdoora (Kokarnag) village of Anantnag district.”

The authorities had announced 10 lakh award for giving information for Wani. The gun battle erupted when a joint team of police and army was conducting a search operation in Bumdoora village of Kokernag following a tip-off.

Wani belonged to a wealthy family in Tral in the southern part of Kashmir. Burhan Wani’s father was a school principal.

At 15, he joined the deadly terror group after his brother was allegedly assaulted by the army in 2010.

Over the years, Burhan Wani gained cult following on social media among radicalized young Kashmiris.

For the first time in years, local militants outnumber foreign terrorists in Kashmir and much of it is seen as Burhan Wani’s influence.
