Panaji, March 18: Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was cremated with full state honors in Panaji on Monday.
The mortal remains of Parrikar, wrapped in the national tri-colour, were placed on a pyre amid a 21 gun salute at Miramar beach and his elder son Utpal Parrikar consigned it to flames.
Parrikar is survived by two sons, two daughter in-laws and a grandson.
Earlier, in a day his mosrtal remains were kept a Bharatiya Janata Party headquarters in Panaji for the last respects.
Senior BJP leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President Amit Shah, Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman, Nitin Gadkari, Smriti Irani, Suresh Prabhu and Ramdas Athawale paid floral tributes to Parrikar.
Former Defence Minister took his last breath at his residence yesterday after a prolonged battle with pancreatic cancer.
In view of the sitting Chief Minister’s demise, the state government has announced a seven-day mourning.
The Central government has announced national mourning on Monday and the national flag will fly at half-mast all across the country.
