November 20: More than 125 people were killed and 200 injured in Kanpur train tragody confirmed Kanpur Dehat SP Deewakar Chaudhary. An Indore-Patna Express train derailed early today around 3 am in Pukhrayan, about 100 km from Kanpur.
The death toll is expected to rise up to 150.
A Government has roped in Army and NDRF teams for rescue operations while local MPs and MLAs reached the accident spot to help victims.
Railway Spokesperson Anil Saxena said, “All rescue and relief measures being undertaken at war footing. Focus is on relief and rescue, as of now no preliminary probe reveals the cause. A high-level enquiry has been ordered that will be headed by Railway Safety director.Injured being taken to Civil Hospital.”
Due to the accident, 11 trains have been diverted and one cancelled as it’s a single lane route.
UP CM Akhilesh Yadav said all the concerned officials have reached the spot. MoS Railways Manoj Sinha reached the accident spot where Patna-Indore express train derailed.
Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu has announced exgratia of Rs 3.5 lakh for victim’s kin, Rs 50,000 for critically injured and Rs 25,000 for those who sustained minor injuries.
And he made it clear that “guilty won’t be spared”.
S1, S2, S3 bogies are badly damaged. List of 63 killed has been issued so far. The death toll may rise as most of them are serious.
S1 and S2 bogies have been opened and those who were trapped inside some of them are already dead are taking out. It is only after the complete evacuation we can tell you the exact figure of the death toll.
Dinesh Trivedi Former Railway Minister said, “Accidents do take place but it is almost a negligence. It is not a train that is derailed at the moment the entire railway Organised is derailed.”
He added, “I have no words to react. Priority is to make sure rather than to get into the blame game, make sure the treatment given should be the best. All heads to get together and save max lives.”

Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan said,” Chhatarpur SP, Collector, rescue team, a medical team rushed to accident spot; injured will be given free treatment.
He added, “Unfortunate incident; state government is in constant touch with Rail authorities.”
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav announces exgratia of Rs 5 lakh each for families of those killed in derailment and Rs 50,000.
