New Delhi, Dec 5 2016: The Delhi government formed 10 more teams to enforce the ban on public drinking on Monday and also decided to appoint Home Guards and civil defence volunteers for the purpose.
The decisions were taken at a meeting held by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia with excise officials at the Secretariat here.
In the month of October, Sisodia announced that those consuming liquor in public would be arrested from November 7 onwards.
The government had been running a public awareness campaign regarding the issue.
Sisodia had formed 10 different excise department teams to enforce the ban.
Public drinking attracts a fine of Rs 5,000 and double the amount if anyone creates a nuisance in public after drinking.
