Vadnagar: PM Narendra Modi has reached his ancestral village Vadnagar to a cheerful welcome in first visit to his birthplace since coming to power in 2014. He undertook a roadshow to meet locals and inaugurated a Rs 500-crore civil hospital and GMERS medical college.

Around 50 banners flying on the side of the road on way to Vadnagar tell the story of Narendra Modi – his birth, Modi selling tea at Vadnagar railway station, later joining the RSS and so on.

The focus of the town this time is the place where he used to vend tea as a young boy. The banners continue with the Modi story to cover demonetization, ties with foreign nations and the bullet train. Vadnagar, Modi’s birth place, is about 100 km north of Ahmedabad.

While visiting his school, an emotional Narendra Modi smeared his forehead with the sand of Vadnagar and kneeled his head to the ground.
