Modi Govt fill coffers of runaway industrialists, lathicharge on farmers: Congress

New Delhi, Oct 3: The Congress on Wednesday said that the reality of Narendra Modi government is to fill coffers of runaway industrialists and lathicharge on farmers.

Addressing a press conference, Senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala stated on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, farmers were beaten up by the Centre.

“In 2017, Tamil Nadu farmers protested against Modi govt for 2 months. PM Modi did not even meet them”,

“In March 2018, 50,000 farmers led a protest march from Nasik to Mumbai. In April 2018, in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, 10,000 farmers were beaten up for protesting against BJP government”.

Citing RBI reports, Surjewala said that the Modi government has written off loans worth Rs. 317000Cr of corporates. Why isn’t Modi govt not providing this relief to farmers ?, he asked.

Why was the price of fertiliser increased? In 2014, fertiliser price was ₹1125/50kg. Today the price is ₹1400/50kg, the Congress leader added.

Continuing his attack, Surjewala further stated ” Prime Minister Fasal Bima Yojana is now only a benefit to private insurance companies”.
