Modi donates Rs 21 lakh for santiation workers of Kumbh mela

New Delhi, March 6 Prime Minister Narendra Modi has donated Rs 21 lakh from his personal savings to the corpus fund for the welfare of sanitation workers of Kumbh 2019.

Modi had last month taken a dip at Sangam during the Kumbh and had washed the feet of the sanitation workers.

A PMO tweet said that donating Rs 21 lakh for the welfare of sanitation workers was the latest in the series of such steps taken by Modi.

He had also donated Rs. 1.3 crore prize money of Seoul Peace Prize a few days ago towards Namami Gange, to help clean the Ganga.

A sum of Rs 3.40 crore collected through auction of mementoes received by Modi during his tenure as PM has also been donated to the cause of Namami Gange.

Modi had also initiated the auctioning of gifts he received till then in 2015 and Rs 8.33 crore raised during an auction in Surat also went to the Namame Ganga Mission.

PMO tweets also said that on completion of his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister, Modi donated Rs 21 lakh from personal savings for educating daughters of Gujarat government staff.

Modi had raised Rs 89.96 crore by auctioning all gifts he received as chief minister and donated the amount to Kanya Kelavani Fund. The money was spent on the education of the girl child.
