Militant killed in J&K’s Sopore, encounter underway


Jammu, Sep 9, 2017: One terrorist was gunned down on Saturday in an encounter between security personnel and militants in Sopore town of Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir.

After receiving inputs of the presence of militants in the area, security forces including the Rashtriya Rifles and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the state police surrounded Reban village on the outskirts of Sopore town. As per the reports, the operation is currently underway.

As per initial reports, search operations have also been launched in Rebban area of Sopore after forces were informed about the presence of terrorists.

Schools and other educational institutions have been closed and internet services have been shut down in the district.

This comes after Union Hime Minister Rajnath Singh’s four-day to the state beginning today. He is scheduled to meet Governor N.N. Vohra, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, as well as a cross-section of people including traders and students in an attempt to find a resolution to the Kashmir problem.
