Meghalaya Coal Miners: 3 helmets recovered, rescue operations underway


Shillong, Dec 29: Operations to rescue 13 trapped coal miners in East Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya underway for the 18th day.

The officails recovered three helmets on Saturday.

Assistant Commandant NDRF told media,“three helmets have been recovered”.

A team of officials from Coal India Limited (CIL) yesterday conducted a preliminary investigation on how to dewater an illegal 370-ft coal pit to rescue 15 miners trapped inside an illegal coal mine for 16 days now.

A team of the Indian Navy, Indian Airforce also joined the NDRF and the CIL for the rescue operation.

A 21-member team of fire-fighters from Odisha also rushed to
the site at Ksan village.

A total of 15 miners have been trapped in a 370-foot-deep illegal coal mine since more than three weeks.
