Meghalaya By-Polls: Congress approves proposal for candidature of Sangma, Monin


New Delhi, Aug 2: The Congress on Thursday approved the proposal for the candidature of Jackiush A Sangma from Ranikot and Charlotte W Monin from South Tura to contest legislative assembly by-elections in Meghalaya.

The By-Elections in Ranikor, South Tura is scheduled to held on August 23.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma will contest from South Tura in West Garo Hills district.

The last date of filing of nomination papers is August 6. The papers would be scrutinised the next day.

While August 9 is the last date of withdrawal of nominations.

The Election commission will announce the results on August 27.

The Ranikor seat fell vacant after Congress MLA Martin M Danggo resigned from the assembly on June 21.

National People’s Party MLA Agatha K Sangma, who represented South Tura constituency, resigned on July 2 to pave way for her brother and the state chief minister to contest the election.
