New Delhi, June 2 : The Municipal Corporation of Delhi continued with its massive sealing drive in Delhi’s Mahipalpur on Sunday where traders and Shopkeepers have thrown their stock on streets to save them from getting sealing in their Shops/ Showrooms.
As till now, only 6 establishments have been De-sealed by Supreme Court-appointed monitoring committee.
The massive demolition drive was initiated in March under the direction of a Supreme Court-appointed monitoring committee to remove encroachment on government and forest land. The encroaches were issued notices to remove their encroachments themselves but they refused to comply with the order, forcing the authorities to take action against them.
SDMC standing committee chairman Bhupendra Gupta on Thursday met members of the SC-appointed monitoring committee and made an appeal to them to de-seal the properties whose owners claim to have all the relevant documents to certify that they have already paid conversion charges
On Monday, major sealing exercise was carried out at Karol Bagh, City, Rohini, Shahdara-South and Sadar Paharganj zones. Main markets and roads covered during the daylong drive included Arya Samaj Road and Patel Road where 185 shops were sealed.

The apex court had on June 1 stayed the sealing and demolition operation after Asola Bhati Resident Welfare Association rushed to the court alleging that proper demarcation of private and government land had not been done by the authorities before initiating the drive. It had directed the authorities to maintain status quo.
