Pune, Aug 2: A Pune session court on Thursday sent 15 out of 18 people to police custody till August 8, who were arrested in connection with violence that broke out in Chakan over Maratha Reservation.
While other three minors were not produced before the court.
Earlier in a day, SP Pune Rura, Sandip Patil said 18 people have been arrested.
Days after Maratha Kranti Morcha called off the protest demanding Maratha reservation in jobs and education, fresh violent protests flared up in the industrial town of Chakan on July 30.
Protestors resorted to stone pelting and vandalised at least 80 vehicles including public transport buses, cars and while at least 20 vehicles were set ablaze.
The large-scale violence triggered across the state on July 24 after Maratha outfits intensified their demand for reservation for the community following the death of a twenty-seven-year-old Kakasaheb Shinde.
The outfit organised for Maharashtra bandh after Shinde had jumped off a bridge over Godavari river seeking reservation for the community in Aurangabad on July 21. He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead.
