Mumbai, July 25: The Maratha Kranti Morcha on Wednesday called off the protest demanding Maratha reservation in jobs and education. 

Earlier in a day, Mumbai and adjoining areas witnessed a bandh as the agitation entered to its second day.

Protestors reportedly pelted stones on two Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses near Navi Mumbai’s Ghansoli on Wednesday morning.

BEST bus services from Airoli to Vashi have been suspended for the day.

The large-scale violence triggered across the state on Tuesday after Maratha outfits intensified their demand for reservation for the community following the death of a twenty-seven-year-old Kakasaheb Shinde.

The outfit organised for Maharashtra bandh after Shinde had jumped off a bridge over Godavari river seeking reservation for the community in Aurangabad on July 21. He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead.

On Tuesday, a policeman and four others were injured, three persons attempted suicide, over a dozen vehicles damaged or torched, road and rail links blocked while a MP and MLC were roughed up.

While Two people attempted suicide in Maharashtra Yesterday. One protester identified as  Jayant Sonavne attempted suicide by jumping into river and another protester Jagannath Sonavne alias Guddu consumed poison in Deogaon Rangari in Aurangabad. Both were admitted to hospital.

Jagannath Sonavne, who attempted suicide by consuming poison, lost his life in a hospital on Wednesday.

In a bid to prevent any untoward situation, heavy security forces have been deployed in Maharashtra.

As precautionary measure internet services were suspended in rural areas.
