Maoist killed in Jharkhand’s Gumla

Ranchi, Sep 14: A Maoist guerrilla carrying a bounty of Rs 1 lakh was gunned down on Friday in an encounter with the security forces in Gumla district of Jharkhand.

According to a police statement, the security forces launched a search operation in Bodkera village after receiving a tip-off that the victim Krishna Gope, an area commander, was holding a meeting with at least four other guerrillas.

While the others managed to escape, Gope was surrounded by the security forces. He retaliated with firing, triggering the gunfight, the statement added.

This comes a day after, a Maoist guerrilla carrying a bounty of Rs 25 lakh surrendered in Jharkhand’s Palamau district.

He was reportedly active in three states — Jharkhand, Bihar and Chhattisgarh.
