JAMTARA,JHARKHAND 13 Oct: A 22-year-old man arrested from the Jamtara district in Jharkhand over allegedly sharing a message on beef via WhatsApp died in custody on Sunday.
Minhaz Ansari’s family said that he was beaten up and tortured by the police.
Ansari, 22, was shown to the media last weak, his face covered with cloth as policeman described to media person why they arrest him. He was not in right condition that he was unable to walk or even stand properly because of a severe beating.
22-year-old Ansari was arrested on October 3.After two days , his family was told that he had been shifted to Dhanbad for treatment after suffering injuries in custody.
Police officers, however, admitted that there were prima lapses on the part of the officer-in-charge of Narayanpura police station, Sub-Inspector Harish Pathak. FIR has been registered against Pathak for murder has been suspended from duty.
“They went to the police station along with other villagers. There was a scuffle at the police station between Ansari’s parents and the officer-in-charge, Harish Pathak. Ansari’s family filed a written complaint against Pathak, following which an FIR of attempt to murder and outraging the modesty of a woman was registered against him. The officer was suspended immediately. After Ansari’s death, the attempt to murder charge has been changed to a murder charge,” Jamtara deputy commissioner Ramesh Kumar Dubey told Indian Express.
Ansari was shifted to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in Ranchi on October 7. He died there two days later.
