Mamata’s loyalist Mukul Roy quits TMC, Rajya Sabha post; party suspends him for 6 yrs


West Bengal, Sep 25, 2017: In a major setback to Mamata Banerjee’s government, senior leader of Trinamool Congress Mukul Roy on Monday announced his resignation from the party and the post of Rajya Sabha, adding that he will formally put in his papers after the Durga Puja break.

Addressing a press conference, Roy said “With a heavy heart, I am announcing that I will quit the primary party post of Trinamool Congress and the Rajya Sabha membership. I will formally resign after the Durga Puja break.”

When asked why he is tendering his resgination, he clarified that “After five days I will explain everything” and added that Today, I will not say a word, I will explain after puja.”

After the announcement, the party has suspended the leader from TMC for 6 years.

As per the sources, Roy met with top BJP leaders in Delhi late last month, adding to the perception that he was “getting close to the BJP”.
