Kolkata, Jan 19: West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Saturday organised ‘United India’ opposition rally at the historic Brigade Parade ground in Kolkata on Saturday.

Senior leaders of various political parties including former prime minister and Janata Dal (Secular) national president H.D. Deve Gowda, Nationalist Congress Party supremo Sharad Pawar, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge attended the rally.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam chief Chandrababu Naidu, DMK head M.K. Stalin, Karnataka Chief Minister and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah (both National Conference), Senior Congress Abhishek Manu Singhvi , BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha also made their presence.

Apart from them, Tejashwi Yadav (RJD), Ajit Singh and Jayant Chowdhury (both RLD), former Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Gegong Apang, Hemant Soren of JMM, Patidar movement leader Hardik Patel, Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani and Mizoram opposition leader Pu Lalduhoma joined the event.

UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi also sent her message to the rally, which was read out by Leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, who represented the party, along with its spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi.

The Narendra Modi government is past its expiry date and in the coming days, a new dawn will descend. We will work together and it’s a promise, she said.

The West Bengal Chief Minister also warned the Bharatiya Janta Party that she won’t allow riots in the name of rath yatra.

Yadav appealed to the leaders opposed to the BJP to remain vigilant about conspiracies that would be hatched to wean away their alliance partners.

“Since my party formed the alliance with the BSP, the BJP is holding daily meetings to find ways and means of winning at least one seat in Uttar Pradesh.

“The BJP knows it cannot win votes on the basis of performance. So it will hatch conspiracies to wean away your partners.

“I appeal to you to see through their conspiracies, and work to save the country, by strengthening your parties, and ensuring the victory of your candidates in the parliamentary polls,” he added.

Addressing the Rally, the Delhi Chief Minister said those who really think about the nation and consider themselves a true Indian should vote to remove the Modi-Shah pair.

“Many people ask me who will become the Prime Minister, if not Modi. I want to tell you all, the 2019 elections will be not to elect a Prime Minister, but to remove the Modi-Shah regime,” the AAP supremo stated.

“The 2019 elections in India will be India’s second freedom struggle. The BJP at the centre is sowing the seeds of hatred and divisionism among people. We have to stop that any cost. That’s why I call it India’s second freedom struggle,” Stalin said.

“It is heartening to see a number of parties aligned here on the stage. Our only goal is to send the BJP government packing and save the country,” DMK stated in his address.
