Kolkata,Dec 31: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made it a point to give new year’s gift to farmers by introducing two schemes related to farmers’ welfare in the state that will come into force from January 1, 2019.
While addressing the media on the eve of New Year, CM Mamata Banerjee announced that her government will provide Rs 2 lakhs as compensation to every farmer’s family in case any member falling between the age group of 18 to 60, dies. She also added that her government will also provide economic assistance to the farmers every year.
Banerjee also announced another scheme pertaining to crop insurance, under which the government will deposit premium on behalf of farmers.
Mamata took this decision after seeing Congress’ victories in three major states of Hindi-heartland, namely Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chattisgarh.
