Maduro sworn in for 2nd term in Venezuela

CARACAS, Venezuela — Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was sworn in to a second term Thursday for another six-year term in office as the country is plagued by a crippling economic crisis and mass exodus.

Maduro was re-elected in May 2018 in a poll boycotted by the opposition with international scepticism as Latin American governments and Canada have rejected the legitimacy of Maduro’s next term.

Hunger, medicine shortages, along with mass inflation and rising authoritarianism has resulted in millions leaving Venezuela resulting in one of the biggest mass displacements in the history of Latin America.
