Maa Shailputri is worshipped on the first day of Navratri


Navratri, the nine day festival which is dedicated to goddess Durga- the epitome of justice and destroyer of evil. Each day in Navratri, the different nine forms of Maa Durga are worshipped.

Maa Shailputri is the first form of Maa Durga worshipped on the first day of Navratri. Shailputri defines as the daughter of the mountain of himalayas. Goddess Durga was born in the house of “King of Mountains.”

She is also known as Hemavati and Parvati. Shailaputri also got married to Lord Shiva. Maa Shailputri has a half moon in her forehead. She is holding a trident in her right hand and lotus flower in her left hand. She rides on Nandi a bull.

Offering for first day: One pomegranate in the morning and accept as prasadam (blessings) in evening, share with others-offer candles morning and evening (after sunset). Mentally offer all fragrant flowers, fruits, gems, clothing.You can also offer paan leaf (betel leaf) with clove and cardamom.
