Lok Sabha passes Motion of Thanks to President’s Speech

New Delhi, Feb 7: The Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed a motion of Thanks to the President’s Speech after a reply by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The motion, as passed by Lok Sabha said, the “Members of the Lok Sabha assembled in this Session are deeply grateful to the President for the Address which he has been pleased to deliver to both Houses of Parliament assembled together on January 29, 2018.”

There were no amendments to the motion.

The Motion of Thanks will now be passed by the Rajya Sabha after which it will be sent to President Ram Nath Kovind.

New Delhi: Taking a jibe at the Centre, Congress leader Kapil Sibal on Friday said that US President Donald Trump said that India’s air is ‘filthy’, a result of ‘Howdy Modi’ event.

US President Donald Trump described the air in India, China, and Russia as “filthy” as he defended his decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord and lauded his decisions with regard to reducing carbon emissions at Thursday’s final debate before the November 3 election.

“Look at China. How filthy it is. Look at Russia. Look at India, it’s filthy. The air is filthy,” said Trump while speaking on carbon emissions as he countered Democratic rival Joe Biden at a final debate moderated by NBC’s Kristen Welker.

Trump further claimed that under his administration the US has had the lowest emission numbers in the last 35 years.

Earlier during his first presidential debate against his Democratic challenger Joe Biden, the US President said India, China, and Russia “did not exactly give a straight count” on deaths due to the novel coronavirus.

Coronaviurs: Total recoveries of COVID-19 cross 70 lakh in country

The Health Ministry today said more than 70 lakh people have recovered from COVID-19 infection in the country. In the last 24 hours, more than 67 thousand have recovered.

The Ministry said, ten States and Union Territories are contributing 81 per cent of the high number of daily Recoveries. The country’s COVID-19 recovery rate has now reached 89.78 per cent. The actual caseload currently comprises only 8.71 per cent of the total positive cases.

Presently, the total number of active cases in the country is over six lakh 80 thousand. In the last 24 hours, 53 thousand 370 new cases have been reported taking the total number of positive cases in the country to over 78 lakh. In the same period, 650 deaths were reported taking the toll to one lakh 17 thousand 956.

Currently, India’s Case Fatality Rate is 1.51 per cent, which is one of the lowest globally.

Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan has expressed hope that Covid-19 vaccine will be made available in the country by January next year.

Speaking at a programme on DD News, Dr Vardhan said there are three vaccine candidates in India, out of which one is at the advanced stage of clinical trial of phase-3. Of the other two vaccine candidates, which are in clinical trial of phase-2, one has recently entered the third phase trial.

Dr Vardhan also said, if the preparations in this regard made so far progress well then 400 to 500 million doses of the Covid vaccine will be available in the country before June and July of next year.

Dr Harsh Vardhan also appealed to the people to follow Covid appropriate behaviuor to check the spread of virus in view of the coming festive seasons.
