LoC infiltration bid foiled; Pak resorted to mortal shelling

Jammu, October 20: An infiltration bid by as much as 6 terrorists into the Indian territory was foiled by BSF in Kathua district informed a defence official on Thursday. A terrorist is believed to be killed in the process.

As per the information the Pakistan army used mortal shelling to aid the intrusion of terrorists into India which Indian Army foiled.

After a failed attempt, Pakistan army started heavy mortar shelling and firing at LoC in the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch after four hours. In the wee hours, Pakistani army even targeted civilian areas as well and sparked panic among the people, informed the official.

Defence spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehta said: The mortar fire stopped at 3.30 am, but attacks using small arms and automatic weapons are continuing. We are responding in equal measure.

The mortar fire was earlier started for 5 minutes on Wednesday at 11.55 pm in Hiranagar sector. Later on it was discovered that it was an infiltration bid.

“Our forces located them and fired back, forcing them to retreat,” he added. “An illumination bomb the BSF fired that time gave sight to the ultras carrying an injured person. He might have died of injuries.”

There is a rapid rise in firing and shelling by Pakistan on Indian posts and villages since India’s September 28 surgical strikes on terror launchpads across the LoC.
