Live Karnataka updates: No Objection if Siddaramaiah is Made Karnataka Chief Minister, says GT Devegowda

New Delhi, July 7 : After HD Deve Gowda said Siddaramaiah is behind the political turmoil in the state, senior JD(S) leader and state Higher Education Minister GT Devegowda on Sunday said that MLAs are fine if Siddaramaiah is made the chief minister.

GT Devegowda’s comments in wake of the Congress-JD(S) alliance jolted with 12 MLAs submitting their resignation to the Assembly speaker on Saturday.

Devegowda said, “If the coordination committee decides that Siddaramaiah should be the CM, we have no objection. Congress is making efforts to save the govt. They have told the members that some seniors should resign from cabinet & make way for others.”

Multiple meetings are taking place as Congress leader and Karnataka Minister DK Shivakumar is having talks with JD(S) leader and former PM, HD Deve Gowda in Bengaluru.

Addressing the media on Sunday, Gowda alleged that the 14 Congress-JD(S) MLAs who had resigned the day before were supporters of Siddaramaiah. “I know Siddaramaiah is behind the political turmoil in the state. Those who had resigned are his supporters,” the former PM said.

“Siddaramaiah is behind everything. The MLAs (who resigned) are his followers. He has been doing it ever since we formed the government. Even after knowing about his game plan, I will not let him become CM again. If that is your (Congress) proposal, then we will withdraw our support,” a Congress leader on condition of anonymity had told the media in Bengaluru .

“There are thieves inside the Congress. One man is doing this for his prestige. He is playing all these games. MLAs who are in Mumbai are in constant touch with Siddaramaiah but I don’t know what my party high command is doing,” he said.

Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, on the other hand, refuted all such claims and assured that he indeed was in touch with five-six MLAs but for different reasons.

On the political situation in Karnataka, Congress leader Siddaramaiah said that there is no threat to the Congress-JDS coalition government in the state led by Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy.

“This clearly shows that BJP is behind all these defections. It is Operation Kamala…Everything is fine. Don’t worry. Govt will survive, there is no threat to the government,” Siddaramaiah said.
