New Delhi, July 7 : After HD Deve Gowda said Siddaramaiah is behind the political turmoil in the state, senior JD(S) leader and state Higher Education Minister GT Devegowda on Sunday said that MLAs are fine if Siddaramaiah is made the chief minister.
GT Devegowda’s comments in wake of the Congress-JD(S) alliance jolted with 12 MLAs submitting their resignation to the Assembly speaker on Saturday.
Devegowda said, “If the coordination committee decides that Siddaramaiah should be the CM, we have no objection. Congress is making efforts to save the govt. They have told the members that some seniors should resign from cabinet & make way for others.”
While Congress workers continue to hold protest outside party office asking Congress MLAs to take back their resignations.
Multiple meetings are taking place as Congress leader and Karnataka Minister DK Shivakumar is having talks with JD(S) leader and former PM, HD Deve Gowda in Bengaluru.
Addressing the media on Sunday, Gowda alleged that the 14 Congress-JD(S) MLAs who had resigned the day before were supporters of Siddaramaiah. “I know Siddaramaiah is behind the political turmoil in the state. Those who had resigned are his supporters,” the former PM said.
“Siddaramaiah is behind everything. The MLAs (who resigned) are his followers. He has been doing it ever since we formed the government. Even after knowing about his game plan, I will not let him become CM again. If that is your (Congress) proposal, then we will withdraw our support,” a Congress leader on condition of anonymity had told the media in Bengaluru .
“There are thieves inside the Congress. One man is doing this for his prestige. He is playing all these games. MLAs who are in Mumbai are in constant touch with Siddaramaiah but I don’t know what my party high command is doing,” he said.
Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, on the other hand, refuted all such claims and assured that he indeed was in touch with five-six MLAs but for different reasons.
On the political situation in Karnataka, Congress leader Siddaramaiah said that there is no threat to the Congress-JDS coalition government in the state led by Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy.
“This clearly shows that BJP is behind all these defections. It is Operation Kamala…Everything is fine. Don’t worry. Govt will survive, there is no threat to the government,” Siddaramaiah said.

Maharashtra Youth Congress workers including its vice-president Suraj Singh Thakur have been detained by police during their protest outside Sofitel hotel asking Karnataka Congress MLAs to take back their resignation.
Congress leader Mahendra Singhi , who was outside Sofitel Mumbai BKC hotel in Mumbai, said, ” I only met Ramesh Jarkiholi. I have not met any other MLAs. I won’t say anything about what I don’t know.”
Karnataka: JD(S) leaders HD Revanna, D Kupendra Reddy, HK Kumaraswamy, and DC Thammanna have also joined the meeting between Congress leader & Karnataka Minister DK Shivakumar and JD(S) leader & former PM, HD Deve Gowda in Bengaluru.
Mallikarjun Kharge rejected rumors of him being made the Karnataka Chief Minister. When asked that there are talks that he could be made the Karnataka CM, Mallikarjun Kharge said, “I don’t know. I want this alliance govt to continue. We want that this should go on smoothly. These are all flimsy information being fed to the press just to divide us .”
Kharge said, ” Ramalinga Reddy Ji is a senior leader and a Congress man. For long he has been holding Congress’s fort in Bengaluru. Let us see what are his grievances and what we can do. ”
Congress leader Siddaramaiah said that the primary thing is leaders should be loyal to the party.
“I am in touch with 5-6 MLAs. I can’t reveal all details. Everybody is loyal to the party. It is not a question of a person being loyal to me. Everybody is expected to be loyal to the party,” Siddaramaiah said.
Ten Karnataka Congress-JD(S) MLAs are staying at Sofitel hotel in Mumbai. 11 Congress-JD(S) tendered their resignations on Saturday from their respective Assembly segments in the southern state.
“As Assembly Speaker K.R. Ramesh Kumar was not in the office, the eight legislators submitted their resignation letters in Kannada to his personal assistant,” Congress official said.
The five Congress MLAs who resigned are Pratapgauda Patil from Maski Assembly segment, B.C. Patil (Hirekerur), Ramesh Jarkiholi (Gokak), Shivram Hebbar (Yellapur) and Mahesh Kumatahalli (Athani).
The three JD-S MLAs are A.H. Vishwanath (Hunsur), N. Narayana Gowda (K.R. Pete) and Gopalaiah (Mahalakshmim in Bengaluru northwest).
The 225-member Assembly, including one nominated, the Congress has 79 excluding the Speaker, JD-S 37 and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) 105.
Launching a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the political crisis orchestrated by the BJP leadership in Karnataka, the Congress party on Saturday coined acronym “MODI- Mischievously Orchestrated Defections in India”.
Speaking to media over the resignations of 11 MLAs, eight from Congress and three from JD(S) of the coalition government in the state, Congress leader Randeep Surjewala said, “A new symbol of horse trading politics has emerged in the country, MODI – Mischievously Orchestrated Defections in India.”
BJP leader DV Sadananda Gowda said, “Governor is the supreme authority, as per the constitutional mandate if he calls us, certainly we are ready to form the government. We are the single largest party, we have got 105 people with us.”
