March 29 : Actor Blair Underwood originally passed up the chance to appear on hit TV drama series “Sex and the City” because he refused to be the token black character.

The “Quantico” star played Dr. Robert Leeds, a love interest for Cynthia Nixon’s lawyer Miranda Hobbes, in season six back in 2003, but he says he was initially approached to make a one-off appearance in season three, opposite Kim Cattrell, who portrayed sex-mad PR guru Samantha Jones, reports aceshowbiz.com.

However, Underwood rejected the role of a top record executive whose sister takes issue with interracial relationships, because the storyline of the “No Ifs, Ands or Butts” episode was too stereotypical for his liking.

Discussing his time on “Sex and the City” on Netflix’s “Strong Black Lead” podcast, he said: “I said no first, two years prior, because there was an episode… Kim Cattrell’s character wanted to be with a black man and it was all about the curiosity. ‘What’s it like to be with a black man? Are the rumours true?’ And I said, ‘Thank you, but no thank you. I appreciate it and I’m honoured.’ And I mean that, I don’t take that lightly when people offer you a job. But I said, ‘I’m not interested in being the black curiosity, but thank you.'”

Producers later reached out with another proposal for the part of Dr. Leeds, and this time, Underwood’s wife, Desiree DaCosta, urged him to take on the gig, which featured a five-episode story arc.

“Two years later, they came back and had an offer to come join the show,” Underwood shared. “And I said, ‘Is it going to be about his race or is he going to be a human being?’ They said, ‘Naw, he’s a doctor that’s in her building who she meets in the elevator and they hit it off.’ That was important. I only did five episodes and they only mentioned it (interracial relationship) once because it’s obvious,” he added. “You don’t have to talk about the black guys. It’s obvious what you are.”

Kanika, who was hospitalized on March 20 after she tested positive for Coronavirus, had returned form London on March 9 and then travelled to Kanpur and Lucknow and during her stay she developed cough and fever.

After she tested positive, she was slammed by the media for attending parties and spreading the virus though none of those who came into contact with her tested positive.

Kanika, who is presently admitted to the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), was also criticized by the hospital administration for her ‘starry behaviour’.

Meanwhile, one of her family member who did not wish to be named, said, “We are now worried over the test reports. It seems that Kanika is not responding to treatment and in this lockdown, we cannot even airlift her for advanced treatment. We can only pray for her recovery.”

Mumbai. March 29: Eminent poet-filmmaker-author Gulzar has penned a few lines in his inimitable poetic style, as an appeal for adherence during on the ongoing national lockdown.

In the appeal that he posted on Facebook, he addresses the need to stay at home till the bad times pass. This is necessary, he reminds us, not just to save our homes, locality, cities and nation, but also to save the whole world.

He captioned the video as “Ghar me rahe.n, Mehfooz rahe.n (Stay home, stay safe)”.

Gulzar’s appeal:

Doston
Bada sakht waqt aan pada hai
Humein isse guzarna hoga
Balki, dua kijiye ke waqt jaldi se guzar jaaye
Waqt rehta nahin kahin pe tikkar
Iski aadat bhi aadmi si hai
Aap ruk jaaiye
Yeh waqt bhi nikal jaayega
Yeh waqt khairiyat se nikal jaaye
Uske liye aapka ruk jaana lazmi hai
Apne hi ghar mein nazarbandh hona zaroori hai
Ghar mein nazarbandh hona aadatan, fitratan
Aadmi ko manzoor nahin hota
Lekin iss baar yeh nazarbandhi kabool kar lijiye
Isme sirf aap hi ka bhala nahin
Poori insaani nasl ka bhala hai
Sirf hamare ghar, mohalle, sheher aur desh mein nahin
Yeh poori duniya mein ho raha hai
Ghar ke baahar kadam uthane se pehle
Rukiye, sochiye aur laut jaayiye
Ghar mein rahiye, mehfooz rahiye

(Friends
Tough times are upon us
That we need to survive
Rather, pray that these times pass in haste
Time never stops at a place
For it behaves like humans
Be still
And the times shall pass
For these times to pass smoothly
You need to slow down
You need to be detained at home
To be detained is, by nature and spirit
Against human will
But submit to detention this time
It will not just benefit you
It benefits entire human race
This is not just about our homes, locality, cities and nation
It is happening in the entire world
Before stepping out
Stop, think and go back
Stay at home, stay safe
