Kolkata, Nov 20 : The Indian team seems to be leaving no stone unturned in order to prepare for their first ever D/N Test and it looks like the stakeholders too are putting in similar efforts to promote the affair. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been tweeting images of a decked up Eden Gardens and of the mascots for the Tests for the past few days and the latest image shows India’s pace trio posing with the ball.

Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav posed with the pink ball in the air as they flicked it up. The pacers are expected to play a big role in the upcoming Test against Bangladesh, as they normally do when the pink ball is new.

Earlier, Virat Kohli batted throughout the twilight period and faced a lot of deliveries from Shami at the iconic stadium. All the talk has been around getting used to the “twilight zone” which cricketers who have played with the pink ball, have acknowledged to be challenging.

Many players who have played the Duleep Trophy, including Cheteshwar Pujara, have said that sighting the pink ball at twilight is a challenge as the crimson hue of the sky and the pink colour of the ball makes it look more like orange. The second Test starts on February 22.

India Vs West Indies

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 8 : West Indies on Sunday recorded a comprehensive 8-wicket win over India in the second T20I between the two sides at Thiruvananthapuram’s Greenfield International Stadium. They chased down a target of 171 with nine balls to spare with opener Lendl Simmons being unbeaten on 67.

The win helps them level the three-match series 1-1.

West Indies were helped significantly by misfields and dropped catches by the hosts. Washington Sundar’s nightmarish run in the field continued when he dropped a sitter and gave Simmons a lifeline while he was on six off 10 balls in the fifth over that was bowled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Two balls later, Simmons’ opening partner Evin Lewis was saved when Rishabh Pant was wrong footed. The wicketkeeper did well to get to the ball after changing direction but it was a drop nonetheless.

Lewis and Simmons went on to put an opening stand of 73 runs, which remained the West Indies’ best partnership of the match.

Sundar managed to get the breakthrough with some help from steadfast glovework by Rishabh Pant which got Lewis stumped on 40. Shimron Hetmyer came in and was starting to tee off when he was dismissed thanks to a screamer of a catch by Virat Kohli on the boundary line. However, that was the last bit of joy for the hosts as Nicholas Pooran came in and took the visitors home.

Earlier, Shivam Dube’s masterful 54 off 30 balls was one of the chief reasons why India managed to post 170/7. Dube was promoted to number three and he repaid the faith shown by hitting a maiden international fifty. After his dismissal, Kesrick Williams and Sheldon Cottrell led the way in stopping the Indians from crossing 200. Kohli, who was unbeaten on 94 in the previous match, was dismissed for 19 off 17 balls.

The series now moves to the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai where the decisive final T20I will be played on December 11.

Brief scores: India 170/7 (Shivam Dube 54, Rishabh Pant 3 n.o.; Hayden Walsh jr 2/28) vs West Indies 173/2 (Lendl Simmons 67, Evin Lewis 40; Ravindra Jadeja 1/22)

IND v WI 2019 T20I

Hyderabad, Dec 6 : India captain Virat Kohli on Friday bettered his personal best in the shortest format of the game to lead his team to a memorable six-wicket win over the West Indies in the first T20I at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here.

After the West Indies posted an imposing 207/5, Kohli’s unbeaten 94 off 50 balls (4×6, 6×6) helped India get to 209 with eight balls and six wickets to spare.

Sheldon Cottrell’s early spell helped put pressure on the Indians which resulted in Rohit Sharma (8) holing out to Shimron Hetmyer at deep midwicket off Khary Pierre.

But K.L. Rahul was on song at the other end, hitting three fours in the second over.

Kohli and Rahul (62 off 40 balls, 4×5, 6×4) ensured that India didn’t lose another wicket although the former struggled to make things happen in the initial part of his innings.

After the first 10 overs, however, Kohli started connecting and he seemed to have reverted to his younger, flamboyant self and it was more than just his bat that was doing the talking.

He stared back at the bowlers whenever they did the same to him and even asked Pierre to go back to the start of his bowling run-up besides mimicking Kesrick Williams’ trademark notebook celebration after hitting a six off him.

His partnership with Rahul produced 100 runs for the second wicket and his stand with Rishabh Pant for the third wicket produced 48 runs, most of which was scored by the India captain.

Pant fell to Cottrell in the 17th over and was replaced by Shreyas Iyer. The 18th over, bowled by skipper Kieron Pollard, proved to be a pivotal one. Kohli managed to hit a six but his opposite number dismissed Iyer with a brilliant catch off the last ball of the over.

In the 19th over bowled by Williams, Kohli hogged the strike and hit two sixes, the second of which was the one that took India over the line.

Earlier, Shimron Hetmyer’s 56 off 41 balls led the way for the West Indeis while Evin Lewis got 40 off 17 while captain Kieron Pollard and Jason Holder too used the long handle to good effect to help the visitors post an imposing total.

India now lead the three-match series 1-0. The second match will be played in Thiruvananthapuram on December 8.

Brief scores: West Indies 207/5 in 20 overs (Shimron Hetmyer 56, Evin Lewis 40; Yuzvendra Chahal 2/36) vs India 209/4 in 18.4 overs (Virat Kohli 94, KL Rahul 62; Khary Pierre 2/44)
