Lata Mangeshkar birthday: Whose voice speaks more than her words


Queen of melody and one of the most lovable voice by the countrymen, Lata Mangeshkar today turns 87 . She is also known as the nightingale of the industry.

Lata didi or a woman with an epic voice rules the music industry with over ten years and also makes a special place in the hearts of Indian across the world.

On the occasion of her birthday , lets a look on some interesting facts of her life:

Lata Mangeshkar starts singing when she was only Five. She used to do musical plays at her father’s Deenanath Mangeshkar’ stage shows.

At the age of 13 , her father’s died of heart disease and lata didi becomes the only breadwinner of the family.

She records her first song for a Marathi movie Kiti Hasaal (1942). She comes to Mumbai in 1945 but she got a break with a song ‘Aayega aanewala’ from the movie Mahal (1949), after which she became one of the most sought-after voices of Hindi cinema.

Lata didi once also fight for her life once as according to reports some unidentified person has given slow poison in her food. But as the blessings works Lata didi recovered fast. During this time, the late Bollywood lyricist Majrooh Sultanpuri would regularly visit didi, taste her food first and only then allow her to eat.

Her one of the most memorable concert was that one where she sang Ae mere watan ke logo’ in 1963, in the memory of the Indian soldiers who died in the Indo-China war. In 1974, she became the first Indian to have performed in the Royal Albert Hall, London, UK.
