Indore, Nov 21: Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh took a swipe at the Narendra Modi government on Rafale deal over not agreeing for a joint parliamentary committee probe in the matter.
“The people of the country are suspicious of the Rafale deal, the opposition and various groups are demanding a joint parliamentary committee but Modi government isn’t ready for it. Isse pata lagta hai daal mai kuchh kaala hai”, Singh said in a presser.
The Former Minister, who was on a day-long visit to poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, also attacked the centre over ranges of issues including demonetisation, unemployment, and others.
The Congress has repeatedly criticised the Prime Minister of compromising national interest on the Rafale issue.
In September this year, a high-level Congress delegation also called on Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) Rajiv Mehrishi with its demand for a probe into the ruling government’s deal with France to purchase 36 Rafale fighter jets.
They also submitted an eight-page memorandum to the CAG giving the history of the proposal to acquire fighter jets, the process for which began in 2007 during the UPA government.
The opposition party also held a series of press conferences on the rafale row, raising several questions on the deal made by the BJP led government at the centre with France to acquire the fighter jets.
However, the government has denied all the allegations.
