Bengaluru, May 23: Janata Dal (Secular) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy on Wednesday took oath as Karnataka Chief Minister at Vidhana Soudha in the presence of UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress president Rahul Gandhi.
All the promises made in the manifesto will be implemented. Safeguarding the interest of the farming community is our top priority, said Kumarswamy earlier in a day.
Alongside Kumaraswamy, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) Chief G. Parameshwara sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister.
Governor Vajubhai Vala administered the oath of office and oath of secrecy to the Chief Minister Designate.
Minister designates also took the oath.
On the much-awaited day, Kumaraswamy paid a visit to the Chamundi Temple and Chamundeshwari Temple.
A day before, top leaders from Congress and JD(S) held a meeting to discuss the portfolio sharing between the allies, and decided that 22 out of 34 ministries would be helmed by the Congress and 12 ministries including the Chief Minister would go with the JD(S).
Congress leader KR Ramesh Kumar will be the Speaker of Karnataka’s Vidhana Soudha, while the deputy speaker will be appointed from the JD(S).
Rest of the ministry and portfolio allocation will be decided after the floor test which is scheduled to be held on May 24.

On their arrival, both the leaders addressed the newly elected Congress MLAs.

Chief Ministers Meeting
Ahead of attending HD Kumaraswamy’s swearing-in as Chief Minister of Karnataka, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu and CPI(M)’s Sitaram Yechury held a meeting.

Kumaraswamy, who was in Delhi on Monday, met Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi at the Congress chief’s Tughlak Road residence to personally invite them to the swearing ceremony.
Several Opposition leaders including Mayawati, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Akhilesh Yadav have been also invited by Kumaraswamy to grace the event.
