Kumaraswamy seeks permission to prove majority

New Delhi/ Bengaluru, July 12 : Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy has sought permission and time to prove the majority in the house.

“After all these developments, I am seeking your permission & time to prove the majority in this session,” Kumaraswamy said in Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru.

Hearing in the matter of rebel Karnataka MLAs, the Supreme Court ordered to maintain status quo, when the matter would be heard again on Tuesday

Dr Rajeev Dhavan, arguing for Karnataka CM Kumaraswamy objected to the submissions of the rebel MLAs that the speaker has acted in a mala-fide manner.

Congress leader and senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi argued that these MLAs’ intention in giving resignation is something different, and it is to avoid disqualification.

Mukul Rohatgi, rebel MLAs’ counsel, submitted to the Supreme Court that the Speaker is answerable to this court, except under certain circumstances. He may not respond under certain sections and provisions, he is entitled exemption
