Kokrajhar gun battle in Assam 12 killed, several injured


12 Civilians are reportedly killed and at least 20 have been injured in a terror attack in Assam’s Kokrajhar district on Friday.

One militant has been killed during the gun battle with security forces. The attack reportedly took place outside the Kokrajhar town and the place is said to be a crowded area.

The army deployed in the area responded immediately and after about 20 minutes of intense exchange of gunfire with the militants, one gunman was shot dead. But at least two other gunmen are assumed to have escaped. One Ak-47 rifle was recovered from the slain militant.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal breif Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the incident.

CM Sarbanda Sonowal on Kokrajhar attack said, “Our Govt will take stern action against these extremist outfits.”

Defence PRO Lt Col S Newton said, “We suspect there were at least three militants and one of them have been killed by army. Army is searching the area for the other militants.”

The site is three kilometres away from the Kokrajhar market and 3-4 militants are reportedly on the run.
