US Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov kicked off the talks on Syria at the United Nation’s headquarters in Geneva .It is most likely that the peace plan would start with a ceasefire around Aleppo.
Regime forces would have to withdraw from the key routes to Aleppo. Both Washington and Moscow agree that Jabhat Fateh al-Sham formerly a Nusra front is linked with Al Qaeda and is a terrorist group.
The discussion follows recent conversations on Syria and will focus on reducing violence, expanding humanitarian assistance for the Syrian people, and moving towards a political solution needed to end the civil war,” US State Department spokesperson John Kirby said .
An agreement between both countries is hoped to give impetus to the intra-Syrian peace talks which have been on hold since April.
Syria’s Aleppo province has been the scene of intense fighting between the Syrian Army and rebel forces since 2012.
