New Delhi, Feb 28, 2017: As political slugfest gets murkier following Gurmehar Kaur’s revelation to media about ABVP, on Tuesday Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will meet Lt. Governor Anil Baijal to demand action against the ABVP and those who issued rape threats to a Delhi University student.
Kaur received a barrage of hate messages over her opposition to Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) led ruckus at DU’s Ramjas College.
Kejriwal also alleged that the anti-national slogans were usually raised on directions of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the student’s wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
Gurmehar Kaur, who is a student of Lady Sri Ram College and daughter of Kargil martyr Captain Mandeep Singh who died in 1999, started a social media campaign against the student group ABVP in wake of the violence in Ramjas College.
But she later withdrew her campaign on Tuesday after receiving rape and death threats on social media by some who called her “anti-national”.
Earlier, Kejriwal had held the BJP responsible for the Ramjas violence and the subsequent threats to Kaur.
“Threatening our daughters and sisters with rape; is this BJP’s patriotism? Shame on these people,” he said.
On February 22, Ramjas College had witnessed never-seen-before violence inside the Delhi University campus between members of AISA and ABVP workers. The genesis of the clash was an invite to JNU students Umar Khalid and Shehla Rashid to address a seminar on ‘Culture of Protests’ which was withdrawn by the college authorities following opposition by the ABVP.
