Panaji, May 18 : Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal indulges in more theatrics than Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh said on Wednesday.

“Kejriwal is a bigger ‘nautankibaaz’ politician than Modi. He is known to say something and do something else, said Singh.

Kejriwal is scheduled to address a public rally in the state capital on May 22.

Singh, Congress general secretary in charge of Goa, said that the Aam Aadmi Party leader had betrayed the trust of anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare, both of whom had teamed up to start the India Against Corruption campaign.

“He has thrown out those who supported him in becoming the chief minister of Delhi. I want to ask where are Hazare, Yogendra Yadav, Shanti Bhushan and Prasant Bhusan. They were thrown out of the party because they wanted to know where had the contributions made to India Against Corruption gone?” the Congress leader said.

Modi sabotaging nation’s interest to favour crony capitalist friends: Congress

New Delhi, Nov 15: The Congress on Thursday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of sabotaging country’s interest to favour his “crony capitalist friends” and claimed the agreement to purchase the 36 French Rafale jets from France was in violation of Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP).

Reiterating its demand for a JPC probe into the controversial deal, the opposition party also sought to know from the Prime Minister why he set a higher “benchmark price” and waived the bank guarantee or French government’s sovereign guarantee.

“The Prime Minister enhanced the benchmark price for Rafale by Euro 3 billion (Rs 22,743 crore). Why did he set a higher benchmark price of Euro 8.2 Billion (Rs 62,166 crore) from Euro 5.2 billion (Rs 39,422 )? Why did he waive the sovereign guarantee requirement,” Congress spokeperson Randeep Singh Surjewala asked at a press conference.

“The Prime Minister has gone as far as to sabotage the nation’s interests in favour of his crony capitalist friends,” he said.

The Congress leader said the only forum to investigate the acts of “omission, commission and corruption” in the “biggest defence scam” of India is to have a Joint Parliamentary Commission (JPC) probe.

Surjewala, later, in a statement said the negotiating team had a serious dispute on the fixing of benchmark price, which was referred to the then Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.

“Parrikar as the head of Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) and the three armed forces chiefs also didn’t agree and decide on the higher benchmark price of Euro 8.2 billion (Rs 62,166 crore). DAC referred it to the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) headed by PM Modi and he in CCS accepted the higher benchmark price,” he said.

Surjewala also sought to know why National Security Advisor Ajit Doval was allowed to negotiate with the French, and not the negotiations committee of IAF and the Defence Ministry.

“Did PM Modi ask him to do so and for what reason?” he asked.

Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, Nov 15: Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi questioning if the agreement to procure 36 Rafale jets from France was at all a government-to-government deal.

“The latest skeleton to tumble out of the RAFALE cupboard: NO Guarantee by the French Government. backing the deal.

BUT, our Prime Minister says there’s a letter from the French promising to be faithful! That’s enough to call this a “Govt to Govt” deal?,  the Congress Chief tweeted along with an image “Titled MODI GOVT LIES AGAIN”.

Earlier in a day, Leader of Opposition and senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge told media that we have been saying for long that Rafale jet deal is a huge scam and will raise this issue in the winter session of the Parliament.

Gandhi’s fresh attack on Modi comes a day after the Centre told the Supreme Court that there was no sovereign guarantee by the French government backing the deal but only a letter of comfort.

Attorney General K.K. Venugopal made the submission before a bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and K.M. Joseph, which reserved its verdict on pleas seeking court-monitored probe into the fighter jet deal.

New Delhi, Nov 15: The Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad on Thursday suspended  DUSU President Ankiv Baisoya till the inquiry in the fake degree case against him is over.

Earlier, the ABVP had issued a statement saying Baisoya has been expelled from all the responsibilities of the organization.

Baisoya has been under a cloud over allegations of securing admission in Delhi University on the basis of a fake degree from the Thiruvalluvar University in Vellore, Tamil Nadu.

He is currently a student of Department of Buddhist Studies and is the centre of an inquiry by that department.

The controversy surrounding Baisoya’s certificates triggered when the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) circulated a letter in September, issued by the Controller of Examination of the Thiruvalluvar University dismissing Baisoya’s graduation mark-sheet bearing that varsity’s stamp and logo as “fake”.

Later, the troubles piled up for Baisoya after a letter issued by the Thiruvalluvar University Registrar surfaced stating that the education certificates provided by Baisoya from that university were “fake” and that he was not enrolled in the university.

In a letter on October 3 to the Principal Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Tamil Nadu government, Registrar V. Peruvalluthi stated: “I hereby submit that Mr Ankiv Baisoya has not enrolled either in our university or in any of our constituent of affiliated colleges and is not our student at all.”

Taking cognisance of the media reports regarding Baisoya’s alleged fake degree, it further read: “The certificate he has produced is fake and not from our university. The Controller of Examination has issued a letter stating that the certificate is not genuine after official verification of records of the Controller of Examination office.”
