Washington, Oct 3 : Concerned over his nominee to the Supreme Court, Brett Kavanaugh, President Donald Trump said Kavanaugh fate will depend on an ongoing FBI investigation while cautioning  it is a “difficult” and “scary” time for young men in the US.

  • FBI is investigating into the allegations of sexual assault and sexual misconduct against Kavanaugh that date back to his high school and college years.
  • Kavanaugh has denied the allegations, but his confirmation vote in the Senate is on hold while the FBI conducts a supplementary background investigation.

Speaking to reporters on the South Lawn, Trump also drew a line on lying to Congress.
“I don’t think you should lie to Congress and there are a lot of people over the past year who have lied to Congress,” he said. “For me, that would not be acceptable.

President Donald Trump reiterated his support for Brett Kavanaugh while addressing a rally in Tennessee. Trump described the US supreme court nominee as a ‘great student’ with ‘great intellect’. He added that the Democrats’ aim was to slow down the vote.

Speaking to reporters at the White House on Tuesday, Trump said: “My whole life I’ve heard, ‘you’re innocent until proven guilty’, but now you’re guilty until proven innocent. That’s a very, very difficult standard.

Trump said he believed the Senate would approve the judge by the end of the week, citing Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
“Hopefully, as Mitch said, they’ll have a vote by the end of the week and it will be a positive vote,” he said.

But experts belie that his  appointment would be expected to tilt America’s top court in favour of conservatives for years to come.

At a rally later on Tuesday in Southaven, Mississippi, Trump mocked last week’s Senate testimony by Professor Christine Blasey Ford, without mentioning her by name.

Ford said Judge Kavanaugh, 53, assaulted her when they were teenagers.
The audience laughed as the president said: “Thirty-six years ago this happened: I had one beer! Well, you think it was…? Nope! It was one beer.
