The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Friday termed the resignation videos of half-a-dozen Special Police Officers (SPOs) of Jammu and Kashmir as “propaganda and mischievous intent” and said the reports are “untrue and motivated”.
The resignation videos of half-a-dozen policemen surfaced on the day when three policemen of Jammu and kashmir were abducted and killed by terrorists, just days after Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists had put out a “resign or die” threat.
The three policemen, all Special Police Officers (SPO), were dragged out of their homes in Shopian in south Kashmir before daybreak and killed by terrorists. Their bodies with multiple bullet wounds were found later in an orchard near their village.
The Home Ministry in a statement said that reports which appeared in a few sections of the media are “based on false propaganda by mischievous elements.”
“Jammu and Kashmir has a professional and committed police force which is fully geared up to meet the security challenges, including those related to Panchayat and urban body elections. Some mischievous elements are trying to project that those SPOs whose services are not renewed due to administrative reasons have resigned,” the MHA statement read.
The ministry further said that the terrorists are at backfoot in the valley due to proactiveness of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The reports emerged that terrorists were raiding homes and forcing policemen to resign.
“My name is Nawaz Ahmad Lone, resident of Kulgam. I was working as an SPO, I am resigning of my own free will, not because of any compulsion,” said one Special Police Officer in a video.
“My name is Shabir Ahmad Thokar son of Ghulam Mohammad Thokar . I was working as an SPO for last 8 years through this video l want tell everybody that from today I have no relation with police department,” said a third cop in his video.
The MHA clarification came hours after a report surfaced that following the abduction and murder of three SPOs in Shopian district, few SPOs of Jammu and Kashmir resigned. The home ministry rubbished the videos, with some officials claiming these were from people who were not SPOs anymore.
