Karnataka Bandh: Congress leader Shivakumar’s arrest sparks Violent protests

Bengaluru, Sep 4 : Violence broke out during protests in Karnataka by Congress workers against the arrest of senior party leader and Congress troubleshooter DK Shivakumar by Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case. Tens of thousands of Congress workers came to the streets and blocked the roads in Ramanagara, Chennapattana and the adjoining areas where the bandh has been called by Shivakumar’s supporters. Hundreds of protestors blocked the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway.

APart from Karnataka, members of Indian Youth Congress protest against the illegal arrest of Senior Congress Leader DK Shivakumar at raisina road in New Delhi. Former Karnataka CMs Siddaramaiah and HD Kumaraswamy accused the BJP of using central agencies to “oppress voices of dissent”.

All the educational institutions have been closed due to the law and order situation in Karanataka, the Ramanagara district administration of Shivakumar’s assembly constituency, has declared a holiday in schools and colleges today.
Some incidents of stone-pelting on government buses were also reported at Kanakapura on Tuesday after the Congress leader’s arrest.

Shivakumar was arrested under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) after he appeared before the Enforcement Directorate for questioning for the fourth time on Tuesday in Delhi.
