New Delhi, Oct 4, 2016: Senior advocate and Congress leader Kapil Sibal will argue Karnataka government’s stand on the Cauvery water dispute case in the Supreme Court on Tuesday after senior counsel Fali S Nariman threatened to stop representing the state.
On Friday, Nariman refused to argue the case and told the apex court that he would not argue the case for Karnataka as it was not following the orders of the court.
The court will hear the issue of constituting the Cauvery Management Board on Tuesday.
Earlier, Karnataka had approached Sibal, he reportedly suggested to the state to comply with the SC order before he took up the case. With the state legislature on Monday agreeing to release water to farmers by modifying its earlier resolution that water will be released only for drinking, Sibal agreed to argue for the state.
Sibal will now argue the case on behalf of Karnataka. However, Nariman may continue to be senior counsel from Karnataka.
