Govt’s decision held unconstitutional: Sibal on Alok Verma Verdict

New Delhi, Jan 8: Reacting to verdict on CBI Director Alok Verma’s reinstatement, Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal on Tuesday said that the decision of both Centre and Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) was held unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.

“Midnight operation to remove CBI Director had an objective, it was to not let Alok Verma function”, he told media.

“The operation failed, the decision of both Centre and Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) was held unconstitutional by SC”, the Congress leader added.

Sibal further stated “Alok Verma will be reinstated but cannot take policy decisions. It’s unfortunate that this Govt has raised doubts on people in high offices”.

Earlier in the day, the top court reinstated Verma as the CBI Director as it set aside the Narendra Modi government’s decision on the intervening night of October 23-24 to divest him of his charge to act as the head of the probe agency.
