Kapil Sibal attacks Modi, says Justice Joseph’s seniority downgrade a ‘black day’ in the history of Indian judiciary

New Delhi, Aug 7: Congress leader Kapil Sibal on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi government over  Justice K M Joseph seniority “downgrade”.

Justice KM Joseph will take oath as judge of the Supreme Court on Tuesday along with two other judges – Justices Indira Banerjee and Vineet Saran.

The Congress leader said Justice KM Joseph’s downgrade in his elevation to the Supreme Court today will be marked as a ‘black day’ in the history of Indian judiciary.

Sibal further attacked Modi government, saying “This is the arrogance of the government as it has given the message that if a judge doesn’t make a judgment in their favour, he may be treated the same.”

Kapil Sibal took to Twitter to express his anger and said, “Justice K M Joseph ‘s downgrade in his elevation to the Supreme Court today will be marked as a black day in the history of the Court,” Kapil Sibal tweeted.

The Congress leader stated that “Judiciary needs to do some soul searching, Smacks of arrogance of Government and capitulation by Court.”

The impasse between the executive and judiciary ended on Friday after the central government finally accepted the collegium’s recommendation to elevate Uttarakhand High Court Chief Justice KM Joseph to the Supreme Court.
