On July 18, 2016, when Sruthi went to UB City in Bengaluru’s upscale shopping arcade for a shoot of ‘Vismaya’, Arjun walked behind her in the lobby, held her back hard and told her “why are you waiting alone at the lobby, why don’t you accompany me to my room, I am alone too, we will have some fun,” as per the complaint.

Bengaluru, Oct 27 : Kannada film actress Sruthi Hariharan on Saturday filed a sexual harassment case with the police against actor Arjun Sarja here, a week after she had named him on the social media.

“We have registered an FIR (First Information Report) and booked the accused (Arjun) under various sections of the IPC on a complaint Sruthi filed at the Cubbon Park police station through her lawyer,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) D. Devaraj told reporters here.

Sruthi, 29, had named Arjun, 54, in her Facebook post on October 20, accusing him of sexually harassing her on the sets of a Kannada film in 2016. She also referred to two other incidents in November and December of 2015 in her complaint.

“Sruthi has accused Arjun of making unwelcome sexual advances, gestures to outrage her modesty and criminal intimidation over a period of time. We will investigate the case as per the provisions of the law,” said Devaraj.

Recalling the ordeal she underwent during the shooting of the Kannada film ‘Vismaya’ in November 2015, Sruthi said that during the rehearsal, Arjun amorously started cuddling, touching her hips and thighs, and moving his hands up to her bra.

“I took exception to Arjun’s inappropriate behaviour at the rehearsal. I silently suffered and was unable to express as I was an upcoming artiste while he was a senior, with clout in the industry and power corridors,” said Sruthi in her complaint.

Though Sruthi approached the director and told him that she could not work like this, nothing happened.

“There was another scene where we were supposed to lie on a bed together. Taking advantage of the situation, he pulled my hand, forcing me to come close to him, hug him, but I pushed his hand, finished the scene and came out of the set,” Sruthi recounted.

Referring to a shooting schedule in a city hospital in December 2015, Sruthi said Arjun repeatedly made advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures, and asked her to join after shooting in his private place, saying “we can spend private time together.”

Sruthi thought of taking a legal action against Arjun on several occasions, but could not muster courage as she was an upcoming artiste and feared it could jeopardise her career.

“When I noticed the #MeToo movement gaining momentum where artistes like me who had suffered sexual harassment and who could not vent it out, I found it as a platform to express my ordeal too,” she added.

Actor-Singer Diljit Dosanjh slammed actor Kangana Ranaut for misidentifying an elderly Sikh woman during the farmers’ protest. While Kangana soon deleted her tweet, it did not go down well with several actors and the lady Mahinder Kaur herself. The actor, now also faces a legal notice for her Twitter fiasco.

Sharing a video interview of the elderly woman, whose name is Mahinder Kaur, Diljit tagged Kangana’s Twitter account, showing her the proof. “Respected MAHINDER KAUR JI Ah Sunn La Ni With Proof @KanganaTeam Banda Ena V Ni Anna Hona Chaida.. Kush v Boli Turi jandi aa ..(Listen to this proof, @KanganaTeam. One should not be this blind. She keeps says anything),” he wrote in his tweet.

Calling him Karan Johar’s lackey, Kangana tweeted in Hindi, “The same dadi who was protesting for her citizenship at Shaheen Bagh, Bilkis Bano, was also protesting with the farmers. I have no idea who Mahinder Kaur (sic) is, so stop creating unnecessary drama. Stop this right now.”

Diljit responded asking Kangana whether by her tweet she was implying that one becomes a sycophant to whomever they work with. “In that case, wouldn’t you have a long list of masters to answer to?” he tweeted.

“These people are not from Bollywood. They belong to Punjab. You can say whatever you like but we won’t be perturbed. You are well-versed in lying and manipulating people’s emotions,” he added.

Kangana had earlier posted a picture on Twitter claiming that it was Bano who was being bribed with Rs 100 a day to participate in the ongoing farmers’ protest. However, the woman in the photograph was 73-year-old Mohinder Kaur, a resident of Bathinda’s Bahadurgarh Jandian village. The tweet has since been deleted.

In response to this tweet, Diljit posted a clip of a BBC interview with Mohinder and tweeted in Punjabi: “Here’s your proof @KanganaTeam. Nobody should be so blind as to go around saying anything they like.”

Last month Rajinikanth tweeted that he would consult with the officials of Rajini Makkal Mandram his health condition and announce his political stance to the people.

Chennai, Dec 3 : Actor Rajinikanth on Thursday said he would float his political party in January and an announcement in that regard will be made on December 31, 2020.

With this Rajinikanth puts an end to various speculations about his plunge into Tamil Nadu politics.

Announcing this in a tweet he added: “In the upcoming assembly polls, with people’s massive support, in Tamil Nadu, an honest, transparent corruption less, secular and spiritual politics is sure to happen.”

“Miracle, Wonder will happen,” he added.

On November 30 Rajinikanth told the District Secretaries of Rajini Makkal Mandram that he would announce his political plunge decision.

Speaking to reporters here, couple of District Secretaries said the actor had told them that he would decide on floating a political party and plunge into politics.

Rajinikanth would announce his decision on jumping into active Tamil Nadu politics soon, said two District Secretaries.

According to the Mandram officials, they also expressed concern at Rajinikanth’s health condition and contesting the 2021 Tamil Nadu assembly polls will be the ideal time.

The meeting lasted for about two hours.

After the meeting he waved at the crowd assembled outside his Raghavendra Kalyana Mandapam sans mask and also mingled with the others without any hesitation.

It is also said Rajinikanth had told the District Secretaries that it is not possible for anyone to make money in politics with him.

Last month Rajinikanth tweeted that he would consult with the officials of Rajini Makkal Mandram his health condition and announce his political stance to the people.

At that time, denying a statement purported to be issued by him announcing his decision to quit politics Rajinikanth said some of the contents in that statement relating to his health and the medical advice given by the doctors were true.

“After discussing the matter with the officials of Rajini Makkal Mandram at an appropriate time will announce my political stance to the people,” Rajinikanth had said.

As per the alleged statement, Rajinikanth’s doctors had voiced out their reservations on his political entry since he had undergone a kidney transplant sometime back. Further there is no vaccine for Covid-19.

Further even if there is a vaccine, whether it would be effective at his age of 70.

The election for Tamil Nadu Assembly is slated in 2021.

As per the purported statement, if Rajinikanth had to start a political party then the plans would have to be finalised by December and announcement to be made in January 15th next year.

The condition of his health getting bad was also mentioned as he had to address rallies and meet people once he plunges into active politics during the Covid-19 period.

Asserting that he was not getting into politics for the sake of power, actor turned politician Rajinikanth in March this year ruled himself out of the race for the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s post and said there was an urgent need for a change in the system.

He said that his political party and the government, in case it came to power, would have different leaders.

He said that 60-65 per cent of his party’s candidate for the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls will be in the age group of 45-50. The remaining seats will go to “good people” in other parties, professionals, judges, and former IAS officers.

Recalling his speech on December 31, 2017, Rajini said that he was not into politics for power. At the age of 45 (in 1996) he was not interested in political power, and now at the age of 68 (in 2017) one cannot say he is power crazy, he recalled saying two years ago.

On December 31, 2017, Rajinikanth had announced his decision to float a political party to practice ‘spiritual politics’ and contest all 234 Assembly seats in Tamil Nadu in 2021.

The actor said at that time that his entry into politics was a “compulsion of time” since the country’s politics had gone wrong.

Rajinikanth had remarked that while earlier kings would invade other countries and loot them, nowadays political parties were looting their own people under the guise of democracy. The system needs a change, he added.

After 2017, Rajinikanth has voiced his views on some issues. In the wake of anti-Sterlite Copper smelter plant protest in Tuticorin and killing of 13 persons in police firing, he said that Tamil Nadu would turn into a graveyard if protests were held for everything.

Later, he said that he was not a mouthpiece of the BJP and attempts were being made to paint him in saffron.

After getting ‘ticket’ to legislature, Urmila Matondkar joins Shiv Sena

Matondkar quit the Congress in a huff on September 10 last year, alleging party infighting, post-defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections at the hands of Bharatiya Janata Party’s Gopal Shetty in Mumbai North constituency.

Mumbai, Dec 1 : In Indian politics, prominent personalities or leaders usually first join a party and then are rewarded with a ticket for legislatures or parliament.

In what is said to be an unprecedented change from the norms, Bollywood actress Urmila Matondkar got a ‘ticket’ first and then officially joined the Shiv Sena, in the presence of senior leaders, here on Tuesday.

Shiv Sena President and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray accorded Matondkar a warm welcome to the party fold while his wife Rashmi Uddhav Thackeray tied her a thread, ‘Shiv Bandhan’ symbolizing her ties with the new party.

Soon after that, she bowed with folded hands and paid her respects before a wall-portrait of the founder-patriarch of Shiv Sena, the late Balasaheb Thackeray and his wife Meenatai Thackeray, at the Thackeray residence, ‘Matoshri’ in Bandra east.

The development came after Matondkar remained in a ‘denial mode’ for 14 months since she quit the Congress in September 2019, and even after she got a ‘ticket’ from the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) to the Maharashtra Legislature’s upper house.

In anticipation of her joining, the MVA last month (Nov. 2020) recommended Matondkar’s name – along with 11 others of MVA – to Raj Bhavan for a coveted nomination to the Maharashtra Legislative Council from the quota of Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari.

Matondkar quit the Congress in a huff on September 10 last year, alleging party infighting, post-defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections at the hands of Bharatiya Janata Party’s Gopal Shetty in Mumbai North constituency.

Earlier, prior to the October 2019 Maharashtra Assembly polls, there was intense speculation that she would join either the Shiv Sena, Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party or even Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, but she had scoffed it as rumours.

An outspoken person known for her bold stand on various issues, a couple of months ago, she and actress Kangana Ranaut were engaged in a verbal scuffle after the latter made certain remarks targeting Matondkar on the social media.
